Educator Library Cards

If you’re a staff member at any of the schools served by the Library, or a Lake Bluff Resident who teaches outside of Lake Bluff, you’re eligible to receive an Educator Card from the Lake Bluff Public Library.

Registration Requirements

  • The school you teach at must provide a letter on school letterhead stating that the school accepts financial responsibility for fines, fees, and replacement costs associated with the card.
  • The school must provide a list of individuals who are authorized for Educator Card privileges.
  • The Educator Card applicant must present a photo ID and complete an Educator Card Application. Visit the Educator Card webpage for more information and to access the application

Usage and Restrictions

  • Educator Cards may be used only to check out or access items for school-related use. This includes items for use in the classroom, materials for lesson planning, and professional development materials. You can place items on hold using our catalog, come in and select items yourself, or you can use our Materials Request Form for Classroom Use to tell our Youth Services Staff the type of materials you need, and we’ll take care of the rest!
  • Educator Cards may not be used to check out items for personal use.
  • Educator Cards are valid at the Lake Bluff Library only and may not be registered at another library.
  • Educator Cards are valid until the start of the following school year.

Loan Periods

  • Educator Cards have an extended loan period of 6 weeks.
  • Items may be renewed up to three times provided there are no holds on the item. Additional renewal periods are 1 or 2 weeks, depending on the item format. Please visit our Loan Rules page for more information.

Fines

  • Educator Cards do not accrue overdue fines.
  • Educator Card holders are responsible for fees for items that are lost or damaged.
  • Accounts with fee balances in excess of $10.00 will be blocked from borrowing until their account balance is resolved.

Educator Services

Youth Services staff are experts in youth literature who are here to help you and your students be successful! We can provide a variety of services including, but not limited to:

  • Storytimes and read-alouds 
  • Booktalks and book checkouts at your school to get students excited about a genre, an author, a nonfiction subject, leisure reading choices, and more
  • Database demonstrations
  • Provide library information and support at literacy night, STEM nights, etc

Request Classroom Visit

Invite the Library to your classroom! Use our </>Request a Classroom Visit</> form to arrange a visit from a Youth Services staff member. We can introduce students to Library resources, share materials related to your curriculum, book-talk titles, and more.

The Library’s collection of research databases and eBooks and downloadable materials can be accessed with your Educator Card.
